সাধারণ মানুষের ধারণা হুইসেলব্লোয়ার বা  গোপন তথ্য ফাঁসকারীদের সাথে রিপোর্টারদের যোগাযোগটা “অল দ্য প্রেসিডেন্টস ম্যান” চলচ্চিত্রের মত রহস্যময় আর গোপনীয়তায় ভরা – মাটির নিচে অন্ধকার গ্যারেজে তারা সাক্ষাৎ করেন, সাংকেতিক উপায়ে আলাপ সারেন, ফিসফিসিয়ে তথ্য আদান প্রদান করেন। কিন্তু সময় বদলে গেছে। এখনকার সাংবাদিকরা হুইসেলব্লোয়ারদের সাথে যোগাযোগ করেন সিগন্যালে, তথ্য বিনিময় করেন ড্রপবক্সে। তাদেরকে এখন ওয়াশিংটন ডিসির গ্যারেজে যেতে হয় না। একারণে বদলে গেছে সোর্সের সুরক্ষার পদ্ধতিও।
