The 13th Global Investigative Journalism Conference will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden from September 19 to 22, 2023 and will feature over 150 exciting panels, workshops, and networking sessions.

Female-identifying journalists often encounter obstacles, whether when they’re out reporting or even back in their newsrooms. GIJN has gathered resources for female-identifying journalists that want to connect, handle harassment, and address discrimination issues. We also provide advice and tips from great women investigative journalists that will serve as inspiration.
Our NodeXL #ddj mapping from June 22 to 28 finds The New York Times analyzing travel patterns and genetic data to show how the disease spread across the United States, and the impact it has had on nursing homes and elderly care facilities. The Washington Post is responding to the increasing importance of visual data communication by expanding its data and graphics team, and the Pulitzer Center is calling for data journalism story proposals.
GIJN’s ever-growing Resource Center added many new or substantially revamped guides this year, including packages on climate change, land ownership, women journalists, data journalism, tracking planes, and working with whistleblowers.
Hacks and hackers meetups. Open government initiatives. Hackathons and datafests. The media development world has discovered big data, and it is embracing it big time. Donors like the Knight and Omidyar foundations are focused almost exclusively on tech fixes to what ails the media. As one prominent donor told a nonprofit newsroom executive, “We no longer fund content.”
GIJN is constantly on the lookout for the best tipsheets, reporting gudies, how-to stories, and videos, then collating and integrating it into ever-growing Resource Center. Following is a curated list of the top 10 most popular resources accessed by journalists on our site in 2018.
