There are just over 100 days before the opening of the ninth Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Lillehammer, Norway. The local host of the 10th Global Investigative Journalism Conference, to be held in 2017, will be chosen by GIJN member representatives during the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Lillehammer, Norway. GIJN is pleased to present GIJC17 proposals for three cities: Amman, Jordan, from Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism; Johannesburg, South Africa, from the Investigative Journalism Workshop, Wits University; and Vancouver, Canada, from the Global Reporting Centre.

The plenary session of the 9th Global Investigative Journalism Conference, opening today in Lillehammer, Norway, focused on how journalists are fighting back against the extraordinary level of attacks against them worldwide. After hearing case studies about their colleagues in Angola, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, and Mexico, journalists from 121 countries approved the following declaration.

GIJN Votes Joburg for GIJC17, Re-elects Board Members

Global Investigative Journalism Network members have voted to hold the next Global Investigative Journalism Conference for the first time in Africa. GIJN’s member groups also voted to re-elect the current seven board members who were up for election this year. The conference will be held in Johannesburg in 2017, hosted by the Investigative Journalism Workshop, a GIJN member based at the University of the Witwatersrand and the sponsor of Africa’s annual investigative reporting conference, Power Reporting.

Spotlight’s Robinson To Keynote Asia IJ Conference

GIJN and its partners are excited to officially open registration for Uncovering Asia — the second Asian Investigative Journalism Conference, to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Sept. 23-25. Our keynote speaker will be Walter “Robby” Robinson, who led the Boston Globe Spotlight team’s Pulitzer Prize winning investigation into the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal. Robinson was played by actor Michael Keaton in the movie Spotlight.
