GIJN is constantly on the lookout for the best tipsheets, reporting gudies, how-to stories, and videos, then collating and integrating it into ever-growing Resource Center. Following is a curated list of the top 10 most popular resources accessed by journalists on our site in 2018.
Huge thanks to all our contributors of our crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. These first days have been intensely busy but rewarding, and we’re happy to say that the campaign is rolling. The global community of investigative journalists – and their supporters worldwide – have had an awesome response. Meet our first fellow! Rosemary Nwaebuni is an investigative reporter with the POINTER newspaper in Delta State, Nigeria, an area known for its big oil production and widespread corruption. There’s no way she could have attended workshops at the Global Investigative Journalism Conference without your support.
GIJN has partnered with the Centre for Investigative Journalism, India to launch a new feature, Watchdog Reports. This daily feed on CIJ’s website curates items on investigative reporting from India and around the world, including news of the latest tools, techniques, fellowships, awards and more. India’s center, founded last year, is working with leading journalism schools and media “to train a new generation of Indian investigative journalists.”
Journalists at the Third Asian Investigative Journalism Conference today strongly endorsed a call for governments worldwide to free imprisoned journalists. In particular, they urged the government of Myanmar and its civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi to immediately and unconditionally release two Reuters reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo.
The Global Investigative Journalism Network has joined a growing chorus of media organizations, human rights groups, governments, and others around the world calling for the immediate release of journalist Khadija Ismayilova. Ms. Ismayilova was arrested on Friday and imprisoned for at least two months on charges that are widely seen as part of a campaign to silence independent media and civil society in Azerbaijan.
Next Global Conference in Rio
Big plans are underway for the next Global Investigative Journalism Conference, scheduled for Rio de Janeiro October 12-15, 2013. This will be our eighth global conference since 2001 – and the first in the southern hemisphere.
Growing Networks, Global Reach
Despite tough economic times and often hostile governments, the global investigative reporting community continues to grow and is attracting a new generation of journalists. That was the clear message from two outsized conferences last month in Boston and Hamburg.
GIJN is growing! Since July the Global Network has expanded by 30 percent–we now represent 60 groups in 35 countries. Our membership includes investigative reporting centers, professional associations, and grant-making bodies.
