We’re proud to announce that eight organizations have joined the Global Investigative Journalism Network. This brings GIJN’s membership to 118 organizations in 54 countries. Our new members include groups that support investigative reporting based in Eastern Europe (Hungary’s Direkt36, Montenegro’s Center for Investigative Journalism, and Ukraine’s Slidstvo and Svidomo), the United States (Internews, ProPublica, and Public Herald), and Italy (DataNinja).
GIJN has launched its latest regional language edition, GIJN in Bangla, in partnership with Bangladesh-based member, the Management and Resources Development Initiative. Each day, we’ll be sharing the best investigative tips and tools, groundbreaking stories, grants and fellowships, data sets and more.

The Global Investigative Journalism Network is always on the lookout for contributors interested in writing stories about innovation in journalism, as well as tips, tools and how-tos around investigative reporting. Experts in investigative journalism, journalists who write about media, academics in media studies, media trainers as well as GIJN members are encouraged to contribute.
GIJN’s ever-growing Resource Center added many new or substantially revamped guides this year, including packages on climate change, land ownership, women journalists, data journalism, tracking planes, and working with whistleblowers.

Despite bleak predictions, investigative journalism is thriving in Francophone countries. From Kinshasa to Paris, 2018 was high point for investigative journalism, with more collaborations than ever before. This year’s cross-border investigations have exposed corruption and fraud, while individual newsrooms have uncovered murder, war crimes and more. Marthe Rubio, GIJN’s French editor, compiled a selection of 2018’s best investigative stories from Francophone countries.
It’s been a big year for investigative reporters in Latin America, from unveiling high-level corruption to collaborating across countries. They’ve chased down leads on colleagues murdered at the border between Colombia and Ecuador, and covered the biggest migratory crisis in years. The reporters have demonstrated, once again, the importance of coming together to hold those in power to account — often doing it under very difficult conditions. Erika Lozano, editor of GIJN en Español, has gathered some of the best investigative stories published in Spanish during 2018.
