Making the Nonprofit Media Model Work Around the World

Krautreporter proved it: donation-financed journalism is possible. Not only in the United States, but also in Germany – and possibly everywhere. It started a campaign for its own online magazine for in-depth journalism with experienced writers. Within one month it raised around 1 million Euros (about US$1.1 million). But 19% of this money was gone the moment it was raised. Devoured by sales tax.

GIJN Members Protest Russia Entry Denial to Scoop’s Khomenok

On October 29, our Ukrainian colleague Oleg Khomenok was refused entry to Russia for unexplained reasons. A long-time trainer for GIJN member Scoop, the Denmark-based investigative reporting network, he was invited to Russia by the group’s St. Petersburg-based partner, the Regional Press Institute, to give a lecture at a seminar on investigative reporting in Kaliningrad. At the airport, he was barred from entry by border officials, without explanation, and deported on the same plane in which he had arrived.

New Global GIJN Guide

Looking for investigative contacts worldwide? We’ve redesigned our membership list so it’s easy to find GIJN members and their work. You’ll find a comprehensive list of GIJN’s 90 member organizations in 40 countries, including profiles and links to their websites, social media, and RSS feeds. This a work in progress, so members please send us an email with edits and updates. Big thanks the Investigative News Network (INN) for this project.
