GIJN’s member organizations voted to re-elect six current board members who were up for election this year, and one new board member.
The GIJN community voted for seven board members, and chose to re-elect three regional representatives Marina Walker Guevara (North America), Fernando Rodrigues (Latin America), and Rana Sabbagh (Middle East/North Africa), plus at-large members Brant Houston, Paul Radu, and Julia Stein. Members also voted in one new face, Estacio Valoi (Mozambique). An eighth member will be appointed by the future GIJC21 host, to be announced later. In all, 8 candidates vied for 7 seats on the 15-member board. Elections for half the board are held every year.
The top vote-getter was Julia Stein, board chair of Netzwerk Recherche, Germany’s association of investigative journalists. Full voting information is available here.

Voting took place by electronic ballot during the week of the 11th Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Hamburg, Germany, co-hosted by GIJN, Netzwerk Recherche and Interlink Academy. For background on the election, see the GIJN website, and for more information, write us at hello@gijn.org.
During this week, members traditionally also vote on where to site the next Global Conference. As no proposals were received by this year’s deadline, the decision on where GIJC21 will take place has been postponed.
